This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with organic microminerals on egg production, egg quality, sperm quality and egg hatching of laying breeder hens. A total of 144 Plymouth Rock White and 36 Rhode Island Red roosters were used. For each treatment, birds were assigned to eight replicates with six hens and 12 replicates with one rooster. Birds were fed a basal diet (BD) containing only inorganic trace minerals (10 mg of Cu, 60 mg of Fe, 70 mg of Mn, 75 mg of Zn and 0.3 mg of Se per kg of diet), or a BD + 500 g/ton of organic micromineral product (OMM) (2.5 mg of Cu, 17.5 mg of Fe, 20 mg of Mn, 27.5 mg of Zn and 0.080 mg of Se per kg of diet) and BD +800 g/ton of OMM (4 mg of Cu, 28 mg of Fe, 32 mg of Mn, 44 mg of Zn and 0.128 mg of Se per kg of feed). At weeks 43, 44, 45 and 49, egg production was higher with OMM BD +800 g treatment than with BD. Egg quality was not affected by diet. Sperm viability was higher among roosters fed BD +800 g OMM than among those fed BD. Fertility was higher for eggs from hens fed OMM BD +500g compared to BD. In conclusion, the addition of organic minerals in the diet resulted in greater egg production, and rooster sperm viability and egg fertility were higher on the OMM feed.
Mycotoxins are one of the most immunosuppressive factors in animal diets. It is important to consider that consumption of certain mycotoxins, at levels that do not cause overt clinical mycotoxicosis, suppresses immune function and decreases resistance to infectious diseases. In this sense, mycotoxin adsorbents that are effective both in combating the damage caused by these metabolites and in protecting and supporting animal health are increasingly essential in the animal nutrition industry. The effect of mycotoxin adsorbents, with different compositions, on immunological parameters in broiler chickens challenged with mycotoxins has been evaluated. We used 300 broilers, distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments and six replicates. Three mycotoxin adsorbents with different compositions were tested, which were added at 2.5kg/kg, in diets contaminated with 1.0 pp of aflatoxin + 50.0 ppm of fumonisin + 25.0 ppm of DON. Evaluation of a control diet without contamination (T1), contaminated diet + SIM – FIX HP (T2), contaminated diet + adsorbent A (T3), contaminated diet + adsorbent B (T4). On the last day of the experimental period, blood samples were collected from eight birds per treatment for the evaluation of phagocytosis by flow cytometry and the cecal tonsils were collected and the expression of pro-inflammatory interleukin 6 (IL 6) and anti-interleukin 10 determined. -inflammatory (IL 10) through quantification of gene expression by RT-qPCR. In the phagocytosis assay, a significant difference was observed between the control and T4 treatments, with a lower percentage of phagocytic monocytes for treatment 4, which also had the lowest IL-6 (pro-inflammatory) value. The objective of this work was to evaluate the different concentrations and principles of prebiotics and sodium butyrate, aiming to replace colistin as a growth promoter. A total of 120 piglets, weaned at 22 days of age, with an average initial weight of 5.475 ± 0.719 kg were used. The animals were distributed in randomized blocks, in six treatments, which corresponded to the use of the following dietary additives: T1) colistin (40ppm); T2) β-glucans/mannanoligosaccharides (0.2%); T3) calcium butyrate (0.1%); T4) β-glucans/mannanoligosaccharides (0.1%) + fructooligosaccharides (0.01%) + galactooligosaccharides (0.09%); T5) β-glucans/mannanoligosaccharides (0.1%) + fructooligosaccharides (0.03%) + galactooligosaccharides (0.07%); and T6) β-glucans/mannanoligosaccharides (0.1%) + fructooligosaccharides (0.05%) + galactooligosaccharides (0.05%). The results showed that there was no difference between treatments for any of the performance parameters in any of the evaluated phases. For the incidence and intensity of diarrhea, the results indicate that treatments with alternative additives showed effects similar to those of the group treated with colistin. A significant difference was found for the profile of propionic fatty acids (0.23% colistin and 0.32%, 0.36%, 0.37% additives) and total acids (0.67% colistin and 0.97% additives) in the cecum. Supplementation with different compositions and concentrations of prebiotics and butyric acid can feasibly replace colistin in controlling diarrhea and modulating the volatile production of fatty acids in the cecum.
